Dental Implants

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a titanium post surgically placed into the jawbone to replace a missing tooth root, topped with a crown that looks and functions like a natural tooth. Unlike bridges or dentures, implants preserve jawbone density and don't rely on adjacent teeth for support. At WYP Dental Box Hill, implants are provided by AHPRA-registered dentists using in-house CBCT imaging and guided surgery for precise, predictable placement.

How much do dental implants cost at WYP Dental?

Single tooth implant from $4,500 (post, abutment and crown). Multiple-implant and All-on-X full-arch cases are quoted after a consultation, as pricing depends on bone density, number of teeth, and whether grafting is required.

In-house CBCT scanning, with Medicare rebate available

WYP Dental Box Hill has in-house CBCT (Cone Beam CT) imaging on site, giving a detailed 3D view of your jawbone, nerve position, and sinus anatomy before any implant is planned. Because it's on site, there's no need to be referred elsewhere for scans, and a Medicare rebate may be available depending on your circumstances — this is checked as part of your consultation.

Guided surgery for implant placement

Using the CBCT scan, your implant is planned digitally and placed using guided surgery techniques — a custom surgical guide directs the exact position, angle, and depth of the implant. This improves accuracy over freehand placement, helps protect nearby nerves and sinus structures, and supports better long-term functional and aesthetic results.

What to expect: the implant process

  1. Consultation, 3D scan & in-house CBCT scan — 3D assessment of bone density, nerve position, and gum health, done on site at Box Hill (Medicare rebate may apply)

  2. Guided surgery planning — your implant position is planned digitally from the CBCT scan and 3D scan and a custom surgical guide is made

  3. Implant placement — the titanium post is placed into the jawbone under local anaesthetic, using the guided surgery technique for maximum accuracy and to reduce healing times.

  4. Healing period — typically 2-3 months for the implant to fuse with the bone (osseointegration)

  5. Crown impression – a digital impression is taken of the implant and sent to the lab to create your bespoke crown.

  6. Crown fitting — a custom crown is attached to complete the restoration

FAQ

  1. How much do dental implants cost in Box Hill?
From $4,500 for a single tooth.

  1. Does WYP Dental Box Hill have CBCT scanning on site?
Yes, WYP Dental Box Hill has in-house CBCT imaging, so implant planning scans can be done at the same clinic without an external referral. A Medicare rebate may be available depending on your circumstances.

  2. What is guided implant surgery?
Guided surgery uses your CBCT scan to create a custom surgical guide that directs the exact position, angle, and depth of the implant during placement, improving accuracy compared to freehand techniques.

  3. Are dental implants painful?
The placement procedure is done under local anaesthetic, so patients typically feel pressure rather than pain. Mild discomfort for 2-3 days during healing is normal and manageable with over-the-counter pain relief. Many patients say that healing from implant surgery is easier and quicker than healing following an extraction.

  4. How long do dental implants last?
With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, dental implants can last 20 years or longer.

  5. Can I get a dental implant if I've had bone loss?
In many cases yes, via bone grafting prior to implant placement. This is assessed using your CBCT scan during your consultation.

  6. Do you offer implants in both Box Hill and Preston?
Yes, WYP Dental provides dental implant consultations and treatment at both our Box Hill and Preston clinics.
